The Yamaha SY77 is a landmark digital music synthesizer introduced in 1989, combining Yamaha's Advanced Wave Memory 2 (AWM2) sample-based synthesis with Advanced FM (AFM) synthesis in its innovative Realtime Convolution & Modulation (RCM) architecture. This hybrid approach allows the SY77 to create sounds that range from realistic acoustic instruments and lush evolving textures to complex FM tones, metallic percussion, digital bells, basses, and distinctive synthesized sounds.
